The year 2025 will be a record year for the renewal of electronic identity cards (eID) in Belgium. This is because in 2014 the validity of the eID was extended from five to ten years. As a result, many Belgians received a new eID in 2015, which now all have to be renewed at the same time. The expected crowds will lead to longer waiting times at municipal services, which makes an efficient approach necessary.
Because this procedure cannot be handled digitally, everyone has to go to the town hall at least twice: once for the application (where a passport photo and fingerprints are taken) and later again to collect and activate the eID. This can significantly increase waiting times, especially at busy times such as Wednesday afternoon, Saturday morning and late evening openings.
In addition, many driving licences also have to be renewed. Like the eID, the electronic driving licence has been valid for ten years since 2015, which further increases the pressure on municipal services.
Docleas supports cities and municipalities in efficiently managing this peak with:
- Digital appointment planning for a smooth flow.
- Automated reminders to reduce no-shows.
- Streamlined administrative processes to shorten waiting times.
- So much more …
The solution – with the possibility of purchasing within a framework contract with the Flemish Government – has had a strong start and has already convinced many municipalities.
